LinnStudio

LinnStudio vs WordPress.

WordPress still runs a large share of the web, but it was designed over twenty years ago. Most sites rely on a theme and a stack of plugins that all need regular updates, and that upkeep lands on you, or on a monthly bill.

How WordPress works, and what it costs.

WordPress is free software you install on a web host, then shape with a theme for the design and plugins for everything else, from contact forms to SEO. Every page is put together from a database each time someone visits. Most small-business WordPress sites are built by a freelancer or an agency, and then need hosting and regular updates.

  • £1,500–£4,900+ to have a site built, mostly upfront
  • £10–£40 a month for hosting
  • From £30 a month for maintenance

Why LinnStudio over WordPress? Three good reasons.

  • Plugins to patch, or nothing to update.

A WordPress site needs WordPress, its theme and every plugin kept up to date, and most security holes come from plugins and themes. We build your site as plain, fast files instead, with no plugins to patch.

  • Fast, and it stays fast.

Plugins pile up and slow a WordPress site down. Yours scores 95+ on Google PageSpeed for mobile, for as long as you’re with us, or we fix it free.

  • One price, no upkeep bill on top.

Hosting, security, backups and your changes are all part of one monthly price, so there’s no separate maintenance retainer.

When WordPress is the better choice

  • You need something we don’t build, like a member area or courses.
  • You have a developer who looks after the site, and you’re happy to pay for the upkeep.

Switching from WordPress is simple. We move it for you.

We move your content from WordPress for free, and your old site stays live until the new one is ready. Your domain and email can stay where they are, and we redirect your old page addresses, so Google can follow the move.

  • Free, whoever built your site
  • Your old site stays live until the new one is ready
  • Your domain stays in your name, never ours: keep it where it is, or we move it to an easier provider
  • Your email carries on as normal
  • Old page addresses redirected, so Google can follow

Why not WordPress?

WordPress still runs a large share of the web, but it was designed over twenty years ago, and it shows. Every page is put together from a database each time someone visits, and most sites rely on a theme and a stack of plugins that all need regular updates. Plugins pile up and slow the site down, and most WordPress security holes come from plugins and themes, so a site that isn’t kept up to date becomes an easy target. That leaves you doing the updates, backups and fixes yourself, or paying someone a monthly retainer to do them. We build your site as plain, fast files instead, with no plugins to patch and nothing for you to update.

I already have a website. Can you move it?

Yes, free. We move your content from wherever it’s built now, such as Wix, Squarespace or WordPress, and your domain can stay where it is.

Will I lose my Google ranking if I move?

Not if the move is done properly, and we plan for it from the start. We carry your key pages and content across and redirect your old page addresses to the new ones, so Google can follow the move. Rankings sometimes dip for a few weeks while Google catches up. They usually recover after that, and often improve, because the new site is faster and built with search in mind.
